POSITION TITLE: Will Hancock Communications Intern

EMPLOYMENT STATUS: Intern 20 Hours per week

POSITION FUNCTION:

Are you passionate about intercollegiate athletics and looking for a paid hands-on experience in the world of communication at the Conference office level? Join us at the Big 1 2 Conference, where we are dedicated to providing our institutions with excellent support as they ensure the best athletic and academic experience for their student-athletes.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

  • The intricacies of planning and executing large-scale sports championships

  • Coordination and communication with host venues and other stakeholders

  • Document preparation and management for high-profile events

  • Effective methods for handling special projects and logistical challenges

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Day-to-day support of select Olympic sports

  • Support of Communications Staff (Coordinator and Assistant Director) with digital and website projects and updates

  • Compile and distribute daily news clippings for entire Big 12 Office

  • Support of the preparation and execution of select spring Big 12 championship events.

  • Production and editing of weekly notes for select sports

SKILLS & EXPERIENCE

  • Previous sports or college athletic communications experience preferred

  • Excellent written, oral, and communication/ presentation skills

  • Detail-oriented, proactive and strong organizational skills

EDUCATION

  • Prefer sophomore or above (open to graduate students)

  • Prefer GPA of 3.2 or higher

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Office environment.

  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking bending, listening, speaking, and use of office equipment.

  • Some requirements for lifting, pushing, or pulling items less than 30 pounds.

  • Ability to work long non-standard hours, including holidays, nights, weekends, game days or other event dates.
