Job Summary:
The Minnesota Star Tribune offers a 10-week summer visual producer internship. We select talented, driven college seniors and graduate students with strong news sense and visual acumen. We expect our interns to come to us with skill and leave with polish and invaluable experience from a major-market newsroom. Interns are paid $850 a week. Interns may be able to apply for any available apprentice positions at the completion of their internship.

We expect our visual producing interns to:
produce daily news, sports and features galleries
work closely with the picture editors and photographers to coordinate assignments and longer-term projects for the photo/video staff
help promote content on social media, across all platforms
generate story ideas the photo/video staff can pursue
conduct themselves in a professional manner.
All candidates must have some still photography/video editing experience, and a strong sense of organization and time management. While we welcome photographers to the department, the internship will be in daily photo editing and department production assistance. We expect a familiarity with all forms of social media for newsgathering and distribution.
Qualifications:
Candidates for the position should show a strong, developing visual sense for still images and video. Knowledge of audio production is an advantage.
Candidates should be well-versed with Photoshop and Photo Mechanic. Familiarity with Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere and audio editing software is a plus.
Top candidates can demonstrate they’re ready to make the most of this opportunity. The term will be early June to early August.

A portfolio of your best work, including any still or video work and examples of photo editing (clips or social media posts)
A memo noting one thing you would change about the Star Tribune to better serve our readers, and how your skills could facilitate such an improvement.
A resume detailing your journalism experience and three references, including their titles, phone numbers and email addresses
Two letters of recommendation. At least one of those letters should come from an editor who has seen you work in a professional environment on deadline. Please do not submit letters of reference from fellow student journalists.
