Marketing Intern - Sam Houston Area Council

The Sam Houston Area Council serves approximately 28,000 youth in 16 counties in Southeast Texas through dedicated service and leadership of approximately 10,000 adult volunteers. SHAC is seeking a Communications Intern to join our team in the Summer – Fall 2025. This position plays a key role on the Communications Team. The position will consist of finding and sharing success stories, creating engaging videos and posts on various social media channels and updating our organization website. The Communications Intern will work closely with all staff members to build SHAC’s brand within the broader community.

  • Become familiar with SHAC’s vision, programs, and gain a working knowledge of the organization’s marketing, program, membership, and development plans.

  • Visit Scouting locations and recruitment nights, create videos, and other visual materials for use in email and social media campaigns

  • Assist in the development of digital campaigns; draft and post content for social media accounts, emails, and website

  • Engage with volunteers and chartered organizations to collect stories to be used in communications materials

  • Create Social Media calendar and schedule posts on SHAC platforms.

  • Create content in anticipation of SHAC trainings and events.

  • Create program and event collateral (flyers, event signage, etc.) as needed that are aligned with our branding guidelines.

  • Support the creation and publication of monthly eScouter Newsletter.

Qualifications

  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail, including the ability to prioritize multiple tasks

  • Self-directive – able to work independently, meet or exceed deadlines, and be highly responsive with minimal supervision

  • Effective communication skills, able to relay updates and barriers to supervisor in a timely manner

  • Adaptable, flexible and effective problem-solver

  • Ability to work remotely and have dependable transportation

  • Available between 15-20 hours per week over the next 3-6 months

  • Must pass background check
