The Headliners Foundation Journalism Scholarship

The Headliners Foundation is now accepting scholarship applications through Friday, March 7, 2025, for the 2025-26 academic year. Eligible students are encouraged to apply. Questions? Please contact Alison Unger.

The Headliners Foundation of Texas awards 18-20 scholarships totaling more than $85,000 annually to Texas college students who are preparing for a journalism career. To be considered, applicants must demonstrate a commitment to journalism and talent for reporting and storytelling with submitted examples of stories published or broadcast by student or professional media organizations. Judges also consider the applicants’ academic record, a submitted essay, letters of recommendation, and financial need.  For a detailed explanation of guidelines and an online scholarship application form, click here.

The Foundation was established by members of Austin’s Headliners Club in 1983 to formalize the Club’s longstanding tradition of supporting journalism education and honoring Texas’ best journalists with annual professional awards. Members’ contributions and donations by others committed to strong, independent Texas news media support the Foundation’s robust programs.
